WE GATHER TO WORSHIP

CALL TO WORSHIP:

Today we gather at the well. It is a well where our foremothers and forefathers have gathered for millennia.

It is a well where we can draw up Living Water so that we will never be thirsty again.

If you are thirsty, if you are weary, if you feel undervalued by society, if you wish you had someone to talk to, come to the well with us.

If you have fears, if you have secrets, if you have questions, if you have a desire to worship God in spirit and truth, come to the well with us.

God in Jesus, meets us at the well.

There is no one he won't talk to, there is no one he does not value.

Come as followers of Jesus. Come and taste Living Water.

HYMN :Joyful, Joyful, We Adore You 232

PRAYER OF APPROACH: Holy God, we praise and adore you. You created the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry lands. In your wisdom, you covered the earth with water so that your people could drink and live. Deep in the wilderness, when your people were parched and their hope was fading, you revived them with water that sprung from a rock. At a well in Samaria, Jesus talked to a woman of poor reputation and low status and offered her Living Water. Open our eyes to see that you continue to offer Living Water to us and to those around us, even when we believe we are un-worthy. Reveal your presence to us, for though you are right here among us we sometimes cannot see you. As we gather hear the good news of your love and salvation, we share the prayer Jesus taught, praying: Our Father...

WE LISTEN TO GOD'S WORD

Exodus 17:1-7

Psalm 95 - A Gift in the Rock

(paraphrased by Jim Taylor) Come and climb up to the top of the rock; Stand on top, and stretch your arms out to the sky. Reach out to the holiness that wraps its breath around you. In grateful silence, soak up the shining light of life. God is the rock upon which we live; All the earth is God's: From ocean abyss to mountain pinnacle, From polar ice field to tropical rain forest, God lives in every subtle link of life. Bow your head before the wonder of it all; Feel the strength of the rock rise through your feet. We are not alone; We are one in God. Lichens and trees, ants and people – All are held in the palm of God's hand. Do not isolate yourself from God's creation. Do not consider your own concerns first. You will cut yourself off from God who created you; You will think of yourself as god. Your struggles will lead you further astray; You will sink further into a morass of your own making. In your loneliness, you will begin to believe that there is no God; You will never know the peace that passes understanding.
