CALL TO WORSHIP:

When they saw the star they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.It is with gladness that we worship the God of life and love.

When they opened their treasures, they offered him gifts.We come seeking ways of giving ourselves as gifts to God

Let us worship the living, loving God. HYMN: Twas in the Moon of Wintertime 71

THE THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT: JOY

VOICE: Today is the third Sunday of Advent - the Sunday of Joy.

VOICE: Our joy is in God and in God’s son Jesus Christ. Like peace, joy is a gift from God. It overtakes us and fills us when we remember what God has done and what God has promised still to do.

VOICE : We light this candle today to remind us that Christ came, and is coming, so that all people might have a rich and abundant life. We thank God for the hope he gives us, for the peace he bestows, and for the joy he pours into our hearts.

{Light the First, Second, and Third Candle}

SONG

A candle is burning, a candle of joy.

A candle to welcome brave Mary's new boy.

Our hearts fill with wonder, and eyes light and glow

as joy brightens winter like sunshine on snow. (VU6)PRAYER (unison) O God of Joy, Emmanuel, send your light into our hearts at this time. Help us to be ready for the time of Christ's appearing. Fix our hearts and our minds upon those things you have done and those you have promised to do, that we may have the joy you have promised. As we worship you, strengthen us so that we may always do your will and so bless you and the world you have made. In seeking and receiving blessing we pray: Our Father.... JESUS’ PRAYER

HYMN: While Shepherds Watched their Flocks by Night 75 (v1,5&6)

BLESSING AS WE GO OUT TO BE GOD’S PEOPLE

By our faith we receive hope and the grace which brings peace. With love and joy, and with thanks for all the gifts of our faith, we go into the world to share what we have received.

In the dark and chill of winter, May the peace and grace of Christ give us comfort, May the love of God keep us warm and safe,

and may the fellowship of the Holy Spirit light our way. Amen. Choral Blessing

God, dismiss us with your blessing;

fill our hearts with joy and peace; let us each, your love possessing, triumph in redeeming grace; O refresh us, O refresh us, travelling through the wilderness. (425 t.28)Thank you to the Sunday School for leading today’s worship. You are an awesome blessing!
