HYMN - UCW 20th Anniversary - 1982

written by Eleanor Maltby, Toronto Conference

sung to the tune of The Battle Hymn of the Republic

We are the UCW; we hold our banner high,

With dignity and grace and love and faith we help it fly.

Our banner is the love of God and praise to Him on high,

The women carry on.

Chorus:

On to meet our obligation,

On to know the jubilation,

On for joyous celebration,

The women carry on.

United Church of Canada, our women all are one,

Bazaars and teas and banquet feasts with work have all been done.

Together we have paid the bills and helped the Church to run.

The women carry on.

chorus

Our units number one to ten from 1962,

The members carry on with crowds or members just a few,

We all belong to number one - the UCW.

The women carry on.

chorus

Our meetings are an inspiration every time we meet.

The Bible's read, the speaker's fine and programmes are a treat.

The faithful few give leadership, the fellowship is sweet.

The women carry on.

chorus

The workshops, presbyterials, led by a chosen few

Supply the help and guidance with some inspiration true,

We remember all the leaders of Toronto Conference too,

the women carry on.

chorus

We are the UCW; we hold our banner high,

With dignity and grace and love and faith we help it fly,

Our banner is the love of God and praise to Him on high,

The women carry on.

chorus

Benediction

And now go with us Lord, into the days ahead. Strengthen us for peace, give us wisdom, keep us humble.

And may we live and work together and so striving, build a new and better world of tomorrow.

Amen
